It wouldn't surprise me, they've left 7.62 ammo on the last 2 variations even though I don't have a slot any more!

I'll double check when I get home
When engaged with the FEO, did you mention section 1 shot cartridges? Perhaps the answer lies there in that the FEO has granted authority to hold 400 s1 shot (less than 5, greater than .36") and 300 s1 slug.
Existing legislation allows the purchases of anything else in shotgun cartridges. ( save speciality s5)

I didn't speak to them, just put in a variation and they added the ammo. I'll have a chat with them, see what they think.
Cheers for the replies, I thought the case was as you say, just put off by the specifics on my FAC

I only have a FAC, only have sec 1 shotguns. Only had an issue with one RFD not selling me birdshot, even though my sec 1s are conditioned for clay shooting. GMP add the clay shooting condition so that RFD will sell you birdshot, or buckshot.
The local RFDs just want to see my FAC and that it has sec 1 shotgun conditioned for clays before selling to me.
On the storage side, best practice is always to lock them away, but no requirement to do so. I do lock mine away just in case.

Section 2.50 of the Home Office Guidance covers the purchase of shot cartridges for section 1 shotguns.
"A shotgun certificate is not required to possess or acquire shotgun cartridges containing five or more shot, none of which exceeds .36 inch in diameter. All ordinary shot cartridges are covered by this description. However, a shotgun certificate (or firearm certificate authorising possession of a section 1 shotgun) is normally required to purchase shotgun cartridges. All single bulleted ammunition, for example solid slug, spherical ball or projectiles for birdscaring equipment, is subject to the requirement for a firearm certificate."
Section 5 of the '88 Amendment Act contains the relevant legislation.
