Thanks, Adam. I'm not a 'black rifle' lover so I tend to gravitate towards the old stuff. They have much more character anyway and they don't all look like they were designed by the same guy!

What you needs, ooman, even if you don't realise it yet, is one of these
it's a Russian Izhmash 22 biathlon rifle, available in sporter and target stocks. It's operated by a toggle lock, providing an awesomely fast rate of fire even if you are wearing thick fur mittens. The barrel is hammer forged and match quality: it will group all your rounds in a single ragged hole if you do your part and aren't wheezin' and sneezin' after having just skied umpteen miles.
We have one, and can pop off each of Farmer Giles' 5 waistcoat buttons in under 3 seconds at 50 mards...

I find that weirdly appealing....

Indeed.
For my 'fun' .22 slot to be filled in the near future, I'm toying with the idea of a Chiappa M1-22 as their timber furniture is interchangeable with original M1 carbine stuff, and a used half decent set of original M1 carbine wood from the USA is a few hundred dollars.......you can retro fit the repro folding stock Airborne stock/grips to the Chiappa as well if desired razz

Of course, there is the fabulous GSG Stg44 as an alternative
Decisions, decisions......

I like the Rossi copies of the old Model 62 Winchester 'gallery guns' - now that's fun!

Yep - agree about the M1 look but I've heard the Chiappa has a bit of a 'plasticky' feel.
I'd suggest an Erma EM1 if you can find one. I got lucky a few weeks back and got hold of one and the build quality is spot on.
