recommend me a second 'fun gun'

#1 Post by Adamdavi3s »

OK I have a CZ455 which I've popped a sightron 36x42 on so that is my serious target rimfire rifle (Shoots better than I do ATM)
I also have a GSG-1911 with the hope I can start some practical pistol at some point, and because its just fun as hell to shoot.

I've got a second slot for a rimfire rifle so I want something fun and semi automatic, but 1/2 way accurate

I did have a Bradley Arms BAR15 but I had to part ways with it due to new family and needing the £££ That thing was amazing and I quite like the AR style.

The obvious choices seem to be

Lantac improved CMMG- Quite ££ and not sure when they're back in
SW 15-22 - not sure about the polymer construction but again the pro ones are nearly lantac prices
Just get a 10/22 and slap a chassis on it and upgrade it as I go

If you want something different then have a look at the Walther G22. It was the first rimfire I bought and to be honest has surprised me a little bit! I stuck a Simmons Whitetail 1.5-5x20 scope on it and it will shoot a 5p group at 25m all day providing I do my part. It's a fun, little bullpup semi-auto .22 rifle which is roughly the same price as a Ruger 10/22 prior to any "upgrades" that are bought for it.

AR alert!

AR alert!

AR alert!

A search here will yield countless discussions, some of them even moderate and non partisan, on the subject of the UKs pretendy AR market.

we aren't allowed to enjoy shooting, you have to have a serious frown everytime you pull the trigger, did you not know that??

I bought a g36 as a fun gun, really enjoying it atm (but frowning on the outside ;) )

My favourite 22 semi auto is the BSA Ralock.

The Marlin M1 look a like 989M2 also gets my vote for fun factor, reliability and accuracy.

Pretendy AR, we are not allowed real ARs in this country.

I've mentioned them before, but a slightly different pretendy AR option is the Sig 522. I use mine for open sights lightweight sporting rifle and won my division last year. Very accurate, tolerant of all ammo, very easy to clean. Also a big slug of metal for the upper (if not lower) feels good. I much preferred it to the M&P15-22 whilst I was idly fondling them and very glad I bought it.

Good fun too. Definitely worth a look.

Quite, I appreciate then lengths that the UK manufacturers have to go to to address the S5/S1 issues

Which version is it that you have? I did see the 'target' version but haven't looked into them in any great detail
