.22 Semi Auto advice

we are very new to the sport but have decide on the 0.308/7.62 we want and also the bolt action.22LR. I am however stuck between a walther G22 and a Mossberg 715t Tactical as a "fun" .22?

Any comments most appreciated. Would prefer S&W but funds just wont quite stretch.

I know you've not mentioned it, but have you considered the ruger 10/22. They're plentiful, cheap, and have a huge amount of accessories and mods to make them look completely different and perform much better than a standard factory gun. I have one and it's 4yrs old, in great condition but if I tried to sell it, doesn't have a huge amount of value so I just keep it as a fun gun.

I've yet to find a semi auto .22 I'd spend money on!

I have a walther G22 its accurate and reliable its short length makes it handy good fun for pinking it is what it is a cheap fun rifle parts can be hard to get. The 10/22 is probably a better choice if only for all the aftermarket parts easily available.

If its just a plinker you're after, what's wrong with a second hand decent semi?

I've known people pick perfectly good s/h stuff up for less than £50 and it still be accurate enough for stuff like LWSR.

I've had anschutz and Remington semis that have given me no trouble at all.

If its tacticool you're really after, how about the Anschutz MSR RX-22? It's just about in that price range if you're local dealer ain't a rip off merchant.

If your heart is set on the M&P 15-22, then save up and get one. There's no point rushing to buy something you didn't really want. As far as add-ons go, there's far more magpul and tacticool stuff for the S&W over the 10/22.

"10/22" seems to be the generic answer when someone asks about semi rimfires. :))

Save for a S&W 15-22, you won't regret it :)

Failing that, I'd go for a Ruger 10/22, you can make it a tack driver, tacticool, or leave it bog standard and they can be found pretty cheaply second hand. I'm not really a fan, I find them kinda boring... but each to their own and budget allowing of course!
