Most recent trip to the range
Just thought I'd pop this here.
Recently went to the range and after the usual prone .22LR shooting I had an offer to shoot a BSA tactical XL on the air rifle range. Due to the rifle being scoped and fairly powerful we pushed the 10m targets out to 25 yards as a reasonable distance for practicality for a good zero.
I haven't really shot air rifle in a good while but imist say the rifle performed very well and I managed a 1p size group at 25 yards as shown in the pictures. Not too bad to say it was standing off hand shooting. I'm now thinking of investing in a nice air rifle myself again to get back into it.
1p piece next to the 5 shots I took

1p covering the group to illustrate the tightness

Re: Most recent trip to the range
Our club has a couple of Feinwerkbau 300 air rifles for beginners to use before moving onto cartridge rifles. They have diopter sights and I can recommend them if it's accuracy that you're after.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.
Re: Most recent trip to the range
I'd really like a rifle that I can have the best of both worlds with thought to be honest, for both target and hunting.
Re: Most recent trip to the range
you cant go wrong with an Air Arms, I use an S410 in .177. Rabbits hate it :-), very good for target work as well
Re: Most recent trip to the range
I shot the ATSC long range on Sunday, the wind at 1000 being most interesting. 70 was considered a good score for the detail.
Re: Most recent trip to the range
Indeed it was, but being a bit sneeky I managed a 72.9 to win Match 6 (1000yds 2+15 and 900yds 2+10 for a 50.7) for a total of 122.16 :shakeshout: Not bad on the dayzeroveez wrote:I shot the ATSC long range on Sunday, the wind at 1000 being most interesting. 70 was considered a good score for the detail.

Well shot all.
Steve are you finding the lack of the tree windbreak on Stickledown is making a significant difference to competition scores this year?

Re: Most recent trip to the range
Makes the wind more honest when it comes from the left. You still get a bit of shelter if you are on butt zero at 900/1000 but nowhere near what you had before. Stickledown is now a much fairer range and you can see the full force of the flags across the range. The topography of the range really comes into play now with a left wind from 10 o'clock. I have now shot two full blown matches on Stickledown with left wind fluctuating and gusting and am getting the hang of its little nuances (was top scorer in both). For those who are going to shoot on Stickledown for the first time in the Imperial, they may be in for a shock and a rapid learning curve.ovenpaa wrote:Well shot all.

For some the scores have been down a point or two but for the majority of higher end shooters who are used to shooting on ranges in other countries it has not taken much to get used to the changes.
