I have come home after a fun weekend at Bisley, shooting the Jarvis and the Amstein memorial. I performed okay on Sat morning in the Jarvis, dropping 8 points in total for 300, 500 and 600 yds (2 and 10 at each). The Saturday afternoon was totally wild, shooting at 900 and 1000 yds. There was almost a gale blowing and we ended up with 18 - 20 minutes of windage. Several people failed to find the target it was that bad. My first sighter missed but fortunately the team coach saw it land out to the right and was able to get me back on target. All in all a challenging shoot!
Sunday morning was better and my best result was 73.11 at 600, so at least I finished decently.
Was anybody else there?

Re: Bisley
I was in the office all weekend, except when I ventured out to find which of you were breaking the rules - amazingly, for the first weekend in ages, I drove round all the ranges at least 3 times and never had to think of invoking my secondary title as secretary of the disciplinary committee.

Thats because we were very polite and well behaved!! However at times there was quite a lot of frustration and a LOT of message 4s. Our Sunday morning shoot was delayed by half an hour due to one marker not turning up. Having said that, the marker I had on Sat morning was brilliant and I asked the Range Officer to give him special thanks.
I met you briefly in the range office when you sold me some score cards.

Re: Bisley
Actually, we were 12 markers down at 0830 on Sunday (staff heard to comment that their duties do not extend to getting other people's teenagers out of bed). The Ranges Manager Mark Jackson went down the butts just after 0830 to help the Butt Supervisor sort the various problems and ended up spending the morning there marking targets himself. Then he handed me (as duty manager) the entire problem and went home to sort a split boiler that was flooding his house.
Given that we had two of the biggest Heritage Pistol days of the year (about 100 prohibited weapons out and back over two days), a huge NRA Shooting Club day (over 20 guns out and back (wet)), a member removing about 10 rifles from long-term storage, a van with a flat battery, a member of foreign origin turning up with two friends to hire a gun and target and buy ammo and completely confusing the staff as to who was a member and who was not, a gun returned minus bolt, two or was it three movements of prohibited weapons, no access to the NRA email all weekend, Gaz bringing a radio back at the last second, two members of General Council, two Trustees and the Chairman wandering around at various times, the Inter-Counties TR Meeting (15000 rounds out, 900 back, then 300 unexpectedly back for refunds in 5 lots after it was all over; Barbara who was doing Range Office hauled off to do her primary job of looking after trophies over lunch when we are busy and hungry), a non-shooting incident that might yet turn into a criminal process and a set of keys adrift, I thought we did all right.
Sometimes being duty manager is a pain, sometimes it's funny, but it's never dull.

Re: Bisley
I was there doing my bit for Team Cornwall. Yep, weather was interesting to say least.
Iain, you earned your wages!
Variable marking, but any problems we're well catered for.
Thank you. Good weekend.

Well done all is what I say, there is nothing better than getting down to the range and seldom a dull moment, my highlight for the weekend was pairing up with a new to the club shooter with a .223, getting him on target at 800 yards with some inspired mental sums and watching him finish with a V bull on an F Class target.
Re: Bisley
Iain, shooting the Intercounties on the Sunday, we thought that, overall, the marking was excellent.
