Roper of London, Gunmaker.
Do any of you knowledgeabubble oomans have any information about a London gunmaker by the name of W Roper? Google has failed us. From what little we have been able to ascertain, Roper was a maker of fine shotguns sometime in the early 1800s to 1850s, and the trade may have carried on after that for a while under another name. We can't be sure, but we haven't found any evidence linking them to the Roper Repeating Shotgun (almost a machine gun) of the USA - http://www.nramuseum.org/the-museum/the ... otgun.aspx

Yes, he seems to have been a smart cookie, though we don't think he was linked in any way to the London firm.
