Types of full Bore competitions
Hi all, as a relatively new club shooter I have shot a lot of gallery comps such as service using Marlin under leavers , iI have visited some full Bore ranges and used historic club rifles but not in formal competition. Apart from CSR can anyone tell me what other types of full Bore competitions tthat I can get involved in?.
I am up in Scotland but hope to travel to Bisley and other UK ranges once I get started.
Cheers

Re: Types of full Bore competitions
There are many types of Full-bore shooting.
Target rifle is one of the biggest disciplines, shot prone using a .308 Target Rifle, distances 300yds to 1000yds. No optical sights allowed in TR. Match Rifle, shot from 1000, 1100 and 1200 yds using .308, telescopic sights are the norm.
Classic Rifle shot from 100yds out to 1000yds.
Then there is F Class in both TR and Open varieties.
Go onto the NRA web site and download the Bisley Bible. It outlines all the major disciplines.
As you live in Scotland there is a deficit in 1000yd ranges, but some clubs do use Barry Buddon.

Re: Types of full Bore competitions
There are open competition srun at Strathpeffer/Cawdor and Sandgroper will be able to comment on these. Great little range in one of the best parts of Scotland.
Vintage Arms Scotland run competitions at Castlelaw just outside Edinburgh.
West Atholl Rifle Club also run some Open comps I think from 300 -1200 yds
Further afield, your next most northerly range is Diggle just north of Manchester. They have Open comps including the very popular Egg Shoot and Fly Shoot.
On GR note, we need to see you at the JSPC Open shoots at Galashiels next year too.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: Types of full Bore competitions
That's great thanks for the info, our club full bore pretty much shuts down at this time of year due to the weather so I would like to investigate other ranges and comps that I could travel too, never having done this before I have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me.

You'll probably find that most clubs comps shut down over winter. The only active rifle comp I know of over the winter is the CSR one at Bisley. West Atholl actually closes over the winter as they de-rig the electronic targets. Try Fife Centrefire and Fife and Kinross as they shoot at Blairadam just outside Kinross and may shoot all winter if you are desperate. Our club shoots at Barry Buddon all winter but it is practice only and can be very miserable at times.

Good to know about Barry Buddon, I shot there many a time in my army days and my in laws stay in Monifieth so quite handy. As I'm just starting buying my full Bore rifles, I don't want to stare at them for five months before getting to use them, I'll have to pursue some land to shoot over as well as this would give me the chance to zero my rifles in.Mike357 wrote:You'll probably find that most clubs comps shut down over winter. Have you been able to get onto Barry Buddon at all this year Mike? None of the Commonwealth Games teams have been able to get so much as a sniff!Mike357 wrote:Our club shoots at Barry Buddon all winter but it is practice only and can be very miserable at times...

Re: Types of full Bore competitions
We get to shoot there at least once a month at the moment. They should come up as guests an shoot with us.

No one, not even the Scottish Team have been able to get on the range up there as far as I'm aware. Would you be willing to talk via email? If so, could you drop me a PM with your email address please?
Thanks,
