Midway UK

Looking for a composite stock for my old Browning A5 I found one on the Midway USA website for $59 cheap and cheerful but it'll do the job :goodjob:
Contacted Midway UK to order one for me only to be told that they don't have the correct import/export license for it which would cost $250 so not worth their while! wtfwtf Now as i've purchased a stock from the USA before you do not need a license to import a stock as long as the value is less than $200 (Boyds)
Contacted Midway USA only to be told they wont sell outside the US only through their agents so catch 22, how's that for customer service :cool2:
So looks like i'll either deal with optics planet or get a posh stock and fore-end made in Boyds for around $100
If they're not interested in their customers why should we be interested in them ?

If they had it on Midway UK it would probably sell for £250 anyways, they need every penny it seems.

Yes that's probably right, no doubt they'd sell me the fore-end they've got listed for around £200 ****

I was looking at a magazine tube, $45 in the states, £65 over here, more than double the price!

I don't read my own signature!

That's BS mate, they don't need an import/export licence for the stock. I know this because I sent one over to the UK last year. Have you had a look at Brownells? They may have the same stock on there.

I stopped using Midway a couple of years back when they got greedy and started charging a special handling fee for any purchases under $25. There's plenty of other options available to me over here.

NO chance on Brownells....as I have been doing some A5 project work for my little Kentish monkey friend...and the olde A5 stocks had dried up last time I looked

I have a contact in FL that may be of use for such MidwayUSA orders...though I concur with other posters in that I'd not deal with the UK branch of that firm if they were the last stockist in the land.

As I keep telling folk, the USA is a big land mass, but there's a bigger one to the East of us; and we may not share a physical border but as part of the EC we have fewer hoops to jump through & lower postal costs (plus ZERO import duty) for items purchased in other EC areas.

The A5 was a very popular gun in Belgium/France, etc.
LOTS of spares for the same to be found in areas if ya have a grasp of the lingua franca or want to have a giggle at the same time & use BabelFish or Google Translate.

I just ordered a custom forest camo laminated stock, fore-end and ventilated recoil pad from Boyds approx £175 all in - who needs Midway :shakeshout:
Saddler, they do plain walnut for a lot less, probably just over £100 for the pair including shipping,
and for imformation there is no value limit to shotgun parts from the USA and it's items up to £100 for rifle parts :goodjob:

I'm a big fan of traditional wood stocks
Sadly, the new owner of the A5 is insisting on modern easy to wipe black plastic...he's apt to make a mess of nice wood

Boyds are pretty good and their customer service is spot on as well. They once sent me out the wrong stock and when I called them not a problem. They arranged for UPS to pick it up the next day when they delivered the new stock which they shipped UPS overnight at no cost to me.
