SGC Question

#1 Post by walesdave »

Hi All
I've had an FAC for years and just been through a renewal (got everything I wanted :good: ).
For the first time I asked for, and got, a coterminous SGC as well. My thinking is, if I see a really cheap Sec2 semi-auto shotgun I can now buy it on my SGC, change the mag tube to Sec1 and then put it on my FAC.

Anyway....my SGC question is.....
I can't see any restriction on the SGC regarding how many shotguns I can have or what gauge they can be. Can I now just buy as many Sec2 shotguns, in whatever calibre I fancy?

Cheers

S2...buy as many as you want.

To make a S2 a S1 you'll need to have prior authority first.
I've been told that you can then transfer a S2 as it stands onto your FAC, THEN do the conversion.

Has anyone on the forum managed to use this method to drop on a bargain?

In my not very extensive experiance, I have found Sec1 to be cheaper than Sec2's. I don't know if it is because they are harder to sell or because they need less work doing,

As I've just discovered recently, this is not the case (according to my FLO). Apparently you need an RFD to do the conversion, it's also possible it will need to be re-proofed but that's up for debate.
I was sold a "restricted" shotgun as s1 and was told by South York's firearms that I was technically illegally in possession of a section 2 firearm, even though there's nothing to say you can't have a restricted shotgun on an FAC.

If you find one that's easily convertible an RFD should be able to sort it easily enough.
Apparently S1s are cheaper anyways :-)

My Fabarm Section 1, was initially a section 2.

My local shop where I have purchased all my firearms sorted it all out. I have them a section 2, they then did the conversion and gave me back a section 1: cost £100 including parts (tube and spring).

Beware, the number of S2 shotguns you can hold may be restricted by your local FET. My local team have been known to impose a cap of three shotguns to new SGC holders.
