Cz452 accuracy

#1 Post by zzr1100 »

I recently bought a 452american in.17hmr .. Once zeroed it would shoot really good groups .. However the zero would seem to change from one day to the next ..
I recently stripped the rifle down to re-finished the stock, on putting it back together I discovered that the barrel wasn't floating like it should have been .. I removed a little wood using sandpaper and a dowel and now the zero doesn't move .. Lesson learned!!

I had a slightly different problem with mine. Groupings were around 3" at 100 meters.

Tinkered with the scope, no difference, swapped the scope and rings, little difference.

Tried Hornady V-Max......how was I supposed to know different guns like different ammo aaarggh

My first rifle, I do love the CZ .17 HMR.

With hornady my .17 is pretty much bullet on bullet at 100m, the limiting factor is me !!

We were out testing a .22LR at 100m Friday and ammunition has a huge impact on where the bullet goes. We only took CCI Standard solids and best they would do in this particular rifle was 2" groups and that was in a tunnel range. It was possible to put two shots in the target touching then the next would be at the outer edge of the circle...

Time to buy a few boxes of different types of ammunition.

I've had a cz452 American in. 17 hmr for 11 years, you need to run a Boresnake through it after around 25-30 shots.....I found only remmington were the only one that stays on target, everything else does not compare....I can put all of them through a 5p peice at 100m benched....starts dropping after that...

Ovenpaa, I've had really good results with lapua sk + , reasonable price and my rifle seems to like them , worth a try !

Ovenpaa, what rifle were you using? The Anschutz? If so, try Eley, every time I've shot an Anschutz, I've found they're not keen on CCI at all, and definitely prefer Eley.

On that occasion it was testing a CZ452. I would usually find a local stockist and buy a box of everything he has on the shelf and see what works however this was not my rifle so I used what we had on the shelf.

It's worth pointing out that even different batches of the same ammunition make a difference.

Likewise, more expensive ammo does not necessarily make it any better for your rifle.

I have found my 452 to be the same, it really needs to be kept clean to keep groups tight.
