Shooting the Savage Model 5 .22LR

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I happened across a Savage Model 5 from 1948 a month or so ago however today was the first time out with it. What a superbly accurate little rifle it is as well, a superb trigger, 15 shot tubular magazine and raggedy little holes at 25m. Not bad for a 68 year old rifle, in fact as good as some of the most recent bolt action rim-fires I have fired recently.

The bolt has an incredibly short throw and the tube magazine holds 15 rounds so you can just keep shooting and shooting and shooting :)

Now all I need to do is find some original open sights for it and do something about the butt pad.

I really like the look of that!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Considering I was shooting CCI Blazer it performed superbly and it makes me wonder why people no longer favour such rifles.

its all about fashion, I have a BSA Supersport 5 that will shoot thumb nail sized groups at 50 yards if I do my bit. Whats not to like?

Nonsense all these old guns are rubbish and not worth a penny.

If you are looking for a firearm .22 or otherwise then buy new, they are better made, with better materials on the latest computer controlled technology (less room for the dreaded human error) easier to shoot, better ergonomics of the 21st century shooter, better sights and infinitely more accurate.

Don't give these old guns a second look, they are obviously rubbish as they are old, do your self a favour and always buy new up to date firearms.

Don't waste your money, your shooting or your life on these worthless pieces of scrap that have long had their day.
