U.S. M1902 officer's sword

#1 Post by rufrdr »

So, in the U.S. Army officer swords are private purchase items. The only swords that are issued to officers to my knowledge are to the 3rd Infantry regiment (Old Guard) at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Also, the cavalry demonstration units get sabers.

Anyway, I was too poverty-struck to buy a sword as a junior officer and later as a staff officer I had no use for one anyway.

Recently I thought a sword would look stylish hanging on the wall in my reloading room so I cruised Ebay until I found the right combo of price and condition. There are a bunch available from pre WW2 some made in Germany. The current PX swords are made in Spain.

My sword is German produced and made between 1902 and 1914. Its in pretty good condition.
