I believe Colt thought about it at some stage but never followed through.

Re: stainless steel SAA
Actually I just remembered the Ruger Old Army - that was available in stainless and is sort of an SAA as it was derived from their Blackhawk which was based on the Colt Peacemaker. There's one on Guntrader at the moment in stainless.

It's .45 though. not .44 (in FAC slot terms anyhow)

Re: stainless steel SAA
. bit more than what I want to spend. been having a browse and noticed some very nice colt 1860 army revolvers that have had the barrel chopped, and birds head grips fitted. really like the look of these, has anyone had experience chopping the barrel down on ml revolvers.

Do a search, it was discussed on the Muzzleloading forum here not that long ago.
Ballkeeper was the original poster I seem to recall.

Re: stainless steel SAA
Managed to get most of the finish off, and dont look too bad as is, just needs a good polish.
Also decided to get the birdshead grip which needs finishing, chopped the barrel down to 3 1/2", and made a new cylinder pin which is easier to remove.
