Recommend me a revolver powder flask please
I am on the hunt for a powder flask for a black powder revolver for testing guns. I tend to measure out the black powder into plastic phials however this is far from satisfactory so I need the proper thing.
It does not need to be anything flash, just functional and suitable for a revolver.
Suggestions anyone please?

Re: Recommend me a revolver powder flask please
does your range allow loading from a flask ?
Re: Recommend me a revolver powder flask please
I am not aware of any restrictions at my range.

This type of thing works well enough for me - the measuring aspect is surprisingly consistent. Although you can buy different sized spouts, if you knew anyone how could work a lathe you trim off a bit at a time until you found your required load.

Can't suggest anything as all the ranges I shoot BP at insist on the plastic phials. However I'd suggest avoiding anything that goes flash :-)Ovenpaa wrote:

You should not use a flask: they have been known to explode and are not allowed for diect loading into the gun on many ranges. Look at www.ballmoulds.com which is the web site of the greatly missed Jeff Tanner's son. In addition to moulds, he sells a simple and superb powder dispenser and measure kit. Look on Amazon for plastic phials which cost very little and simplify the whole process.

We all use flasks for revolver shooting on our range (albeit we are obliged to use BP substitute).
I was under the impression the risk of blowing up a flask was more from loading muzzle loading rifles where a few stray embers may still lurk rather than revolvers. I've literally put thousands of balls down range with no incident with my flask.

What Fred said is standard practice and is sensible, why run the risk of a larger explosion that necessary in the event of a loading ignition. It doesn't happen everytime but it has happened on occasion so no need to tempt fate.
Also I can recommend the Tanner dispenser, it is what I use, it is also an excellent smokeless powder measure a la Belding and Mull.

I have several flasks and the one I prefer has a straight opening mechanism which you depress rather than the round spring type which you have to turn with your thumb. It fits my hand better and is easier to hold in the hand.
