Deactivated weapons legislation implementation

This is important news for gun trade members. New firearms legislation requiring the notification of deactivated weapons has been initiated as a result of the UK’s delayed exit from the EU. The new legislation has been transposed directly from the EU Firearms Directive which was initiated following terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015.

From 12 December it will be a legal requirement to register the possession and the transfer of deactivated weapons with the Home Office. Failure to comply could result in a criminal record and a fine of up to £200.

I hadn't heard that that was done with deactivated firarms.

They were live rifles, converted (deactivated) to blank fire by the addition of two metal pegs in the barrel, shocking really.

That report is a bit fatuous.

Err... that's the thing about illegal markets - they don't involve the authorities. If the deactivations had been done to a better standard, the bad guys would have found another source for their weapons - as they said, the Balkans are awash with them, and as Churchill said, the Balkans produce more history than they can consume. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be done better, but it's daft, and dangerous, to pretend that that would solve the problem. And, particularly if you;re a jihadist, there's always the industry in Darra Adam Khel.
