.338 Lapua Magnum range

#1 Post by Tallguy »

Thinking about getting a .338 Lapua Magnum. Apart from Orion in Wales and the 50 Cal Club, where can I shoot this calibre of rifle please?

You used to be able to at the MOD ranges in Otterburn in Northumberland but since Covid civvies are restricted to the ERT range only (no idea why thats still in force??) and as that is only 300m i'd be surprised if it was permitted there/there'd be little point for that type of calibre.

Gardner's range at Eskdalemuir. My mate bought one a few years ago, sold it this summer as had only fired 340 rounds due to the lack of availability of ranges. Don't forget you don't get many cartridges out of a kg of powder either!

I know its rated for 50bmg but I wouldn't want to be in there shooting it! .308 with a muzzle brake was bad enough! 5mith

My mate used his in a local tunnel range - the blast splintered the wood they had around the mouth of the tunnel and he had inner ear plugs in and then outer defenders on and he was still deafened. Said it was like having concussion.
