Mounting a scope on a Mauser
Hi All. I normally shoot TR with my Mauser but our club has recently started shooting F Class so I want to be able to put a scope on it.
Is there an off the shelf mount that will fit? Or an easy way to add a rail? There are 2 holes at the rear of the action but none at the front and I would like to avoid having to get a gunsmith to drill and tap if possible as the gun isn't worth much so isn't worth spending money on.
Picture below to show what I'm working with.

There seems to be several options:

Just though I'd grab an image to see if it works.

Ah, I should have mentioned, my Mauser has been re-barreled and doesn't have that sight fixture.1066 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 6:06 pm There seems to be several options:

Blimey, you would have to stand on a chair to see through that scope.
Never argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Re: Mounting a scope on a Mauser
Not at all, either type of turret mount on a K98k is very useable. A cheek extension as used on the Lee-Enfield No.4T sniper rifle would be better, but it's still not a huge issue.
OP, there is a "no gunsmith" pic rail mount that you can get for a K98k, but not sure whether it would work on a TR modified Mauser action. I suspect you'll have no option but to drill and tap for a commercial type scope mount, if you can find a suitable one from somewhere?
Re: Mounting a scope on a Mauser
I am not sure why you would want to do that anyway but what ever floats your boat. I believe I have a drilling jig some were thats used for acuratelly drilling and tapping for a scope mount. But were it is now a days in my Sheds would take forever to find.

Re: Mounting a scope on a Mauser
Thank you for the thought, but I have access to a full machine shop with CNC mill so I could drill it pretty accurately should I choose to do it myself...
I have found this, which appears the 2 holes at the rear "should" line up with those already in my action. I could possibly get away with drilling and tapping 1 hole at the front. For the sake of £30 its worth a try.

Or there is this one which is 3 times the price but sits a little higher which I might need... Can't see why its 3 times the price though.

This one is steel and a good make. It looks like it would sit better on the rifle. If I was doing it this is the mount I would go for.Pippin89 wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 6:26 am Or there is this one which is 3 times the price but sits a little higher which I might need...
