Mauser bolt identification

#1 Post by Richo »

Could anybody help identify this Mauser bolt, i have been sorting through my deceased mates gun spares and found several bolts i assume purchased as spares but am not sure, theres Nagant and Mannlicher M96 bolts which are easy to identify but this one i am not sure about, its has a number 751 and i assume proof mark and letter N on the bolt handle but nothing else, not even any British proof marks so i guess never been fitted to a UK proof gun.
Any info would be appreciated and hopefully the photos upload.

Hello
The only information I can offer is that the proof stamp is a Crown/N German Commercial nitro proof. Possibly from a post war rebuild rifle, have you tried to locate any cases in the bolt head to get some idea of the bolt calibre.

Hi Bill
I had a suspicion it might have been a German proof mark, my old mate had several old model Mausers (all gone now) but they all had the correct serial numbered bolts fitted, and i dont own or shoot any old timer Mausers so can't access any cases to try out under the bolt head.
He had a commission mauser and S/ African Bore war rifle plus some ww1 rifles so can only assume this bolt would have been a spare for one of them, its the turned down handle that got me as most were straight handles if i am not mistaken, having said that i am not at sll knowledgeable on them, the only Mauser based rifle i have is a Spanish FR8.
