Firing Point Maintenence

#1 Post by John25 »

Over the years we get a number of complaints about the state of the firing points, some of them even justified.

I shan't go into my 'then don't sit on a stool and poke holes in it' rant, or my 'well don't put up a gazebo just beacause the air is wet' chunter either.

So, the plan is to rope off a 'chunk' of firing point at 900 and 1000x on Stickledown and similar on Century, and carry out some fairly major repairs/renovations.

This can't happen until the ground is warm enough for germination - so- be prepared for a 'Sorry, no space at 900, you can have eight or a thousand' answer when you want to make a booking.

Using the old addage, 'You can't please all. etc.' - 'we' would ask you to bear with us.

This is likely to be end of March, early April; 4C is I believe the required temperature, so don't be surprised or upset if you can't have exactly what you want.

The exact dates will be promulgated closer to the time, this is just to give you a heads up and (hopefully) reduce the number of complaints about the firing points?

Nah - your'e right, some b :squirrel: s just want to moan!

Once this is completed, would it be possible to cut the grass a little shorter please - earlier this year at a TR shoot, we were having a picnic at the point, and I dropped, and lost my silver lobster pick...I couldn't get all the meat out of the claws...it was most inconvienient!

And try getting your Pimms glass to stand up on that grass. It's a nightmare.

Yes, wholly unacceptable!

Leave the grass alone - the servants must scurry about and find said items!

Gazebos? Do they need booking in advance or will one of the lads erect them on the day?

Also it is an inconvenience to be told I cannot shoot at 900 yards, will you be providing gun bearers to transport rifles to the new firing point?

Are we getting the same loaders as last year?

Are there any plans to include chillers at the firing point, the buckets of ice melt quickly on the day it is summer and it is a faff sending the loader off for more ice.

Some people are just never satisfied.

Being an Englishman I prefer my beer warm anyway!

AND I haven't said that you can't shoot at 900 yards (somebody just whispered that the distance doesn't matter you just can't shoot!) I said (stopped typing - interest faded away to zero - it's so thrilling to be back in the range office) Here I am, brain the size of a planet and they want to moan at me about no paper in the bogs.......

Oh b :squirrel: I think I'll just put the kettle on.

O:-)

So we can no longer shoot at 900 yards? I only ever shoot at 900 yards

Stop winding each other up...cos I'll get the blame! :D

The NRA bods on here are doing their best.

They don't run the place...just keep it going when the wheel hits a hole.
