Dare to be different - Phoenix F Class entry

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I am going to shoot the 4/5/600 yards with our S&L Sporter, 4.5Kgs of hunting rifle shot off a Harris bipod with a sand filled woolly sock for a rear bag, I intend to be competitive as well. Anyone care to join me shooting on the F Open class with a not strictly F Class rifle? Before you say WTF is the point, Sporter/Hunting rifles do not really have a class to fit in for short range shooting so I have to enter this.

Anyone dare to be different?

Sounds like fun! :G In fact it sounds like the perfect mission for my next project, but I don't if it would be ready in time - money, variation, money, stock, money, reloading equip, money, money and more money! sign01

The Phoenix is in June this year. Friday 01 to Sunday 03rd. Included will be two F Class comps on the Saturday and Sunday, last year I shot 4/5/600 AM and 8/9/1000 PM CoF being 2+15 at each distance, it is doable at a push but you only get an hours rest in the middle to get your rifle cleaned, some food and a cuppa and get to the F for the afternoon. They may change this year but last year was just 'F Class' so the F Open shooters mixed it with the F/TR shooters who did tend to bitch a bit

Cost wise around GBP32 for both comps from memory so cheap days shooting, of course that may change this year..

As I am shooting the 'F Sporter class' which I made up about 30 seconds ago the only rules are be safe, be under 10Kgs if you shoot anything other than .308/.223 and have fun of course!

Targets are the F Class half MOA things, think of an airgun target shot at 400 yards.....

I should be there. Not sure re Fclass but lever action plus target shotgun if my variation comes through!
May also do the target rifle comp on that weekend. (Hope you'll still speak!)

I use a dog training dummy. I know the sock is alot cheaper but the dummy is robust, won't burst and is waterproof. Just make sure the dog doesn't nick it!

I quite like the sound of this, I will be there on the Sunday, so I might lob the old 223 tikka in the boot and join you.
