Mt. St. Helens

#1 Post by rufrdr »

We spent a week recently in the Seattle Washington area and visited Mt. St. Helens, the site of the 1981 volcano eruption that devestated many miles around the mountain and killed about 50 people. Even after all this time the area where the blast occured is still barren.

The mountains directly in line with the blast showing the trees blown down. Most of the trees were salvaged over the decades.

This bridge is a replacement, the original was wiped out by the blast. This was the furthest limit of the blast damage, the rest was wiped out from ash and mud flows.

And...since this is a shooting forum, a memorial to the 4th Infantry division at Ft. Lewis WA. The wife and I stopped there to do some shopping in the PX and eat junk food at the food court.

Navy, Army and Air Force Institute - they run the bars, cafes, shops etc. on British military bases.

Can't believe you didn't get "It's like a PX" as a response to that. Missed opportunity there. ;)

Great pictures as ever Rufrdr and a typically spectacular thread hijack from FB yet again

BTW - I thought it was 'BX' all of the times I visited the PX at RAF Chicksands back in the early 80's.....
