I regularly wear realtree camo to go shooting in during the winter as its warm and waterproof. :good: The only shooting i wouldn't wear it for is PSG as IPSC bans it because of the reason given above.
Ahhh, so you HAVE been to a CSR shoot then ! ;)

On a more serious note, I would never enter a comp where the organisers dictate what I can and cannot wear, for "politically correct" reasons. And if my club brought out such a rule, I would find another club.

If IPSC is so worried about public perception, why not go the whole hog and shoot their matches with side by side shotguns ?
We sometimes have O/U or SbS PSG shoots at my local place!

The reason they give is that while the type of shooting IPSC presides over has its origins in police/military training, its evolved into a sport (series of sports) in its own right, therefore people participating should be dressed as sportsmen/women, not police/military (unless they are currently serving in which case they can wear uniforms).

On top of that there is the public relations side of it, but bear in mind that the I of IPSC stands for International, and the various disciplines/divisions are shot all over the world where there may be even less tolerance shown to shooters dressed in camo/black than in the UK.

Fair enough.

So, its ok to participate in a sport which has evolved from combat training to target shooting by civilians ? Nobody will see that as "looking a bit military" ?

Its ok to use firearms which have evolved from trench clearing assault weapons to target shooting firearms ? Nobody will object to that ?

But its not ok to take an item of military clothing which has evolved into sporting use ? Because, someone who otherwise would not have noticed a man proceeding through a course of fire ( looking like a CQB training ground ) using a high capacity shotgun firing rapidly would suddenly see the camo and associate it with militaristic overtones ?

Ok then.

No matter if you all went out shooting in Armani Suits, collar and ties or a ball gown or a dry suit - someone would still have a hissy fit about it!

Have fun - that's what it's all about is it not? Too much time seems to be spent worrying about sad pathetic people who will hate you for being independently minded sportsmen who do not follow the tribal footie instinct - no matter what you do to appease them.

What is being discussed (clothing on range, gun style etc) is really about the projectionism issues suffered by those outside the sport. Those people need professional help, not appeasing by law abiding people going about their lawful chosen sport. These people only see BAD in everything.

You could quite easily add archery, javelin throwing, fencing, wrestling, Highland games, martial arts and even kite flying and Chinese fans to the hate list of the anti weirdos if you follow their mentality - ALL have their roots in war.

The army wear green brown and black.
The navy wear blue and white
The airforce wear light blue
The police wear black
The fire service wear red and yellow
The RAC wear orange
Doctors wear white
Maybe we should just do it in the nude ?

oldskool :o :o :o :o :o aaarggh aaarggh aaarggh aaarggh aaarggh

Even that would get someof them upset, you cannot win with them so why waste your time? Whatever you do to appease them it is always a "first step", we all know that so why take ANY steps at all.

Maybe we should all wear Lib Dem or Labour rosettes when out shooting and see what happens?

*Doesn't sound "fair enough" lol :run: Maybe you should try broaching this subject with the IPSC president.....

**Doesn't seem to bother people when it comes to archery, javelin or virtually any field sports. Maybe when there's laser guns, firearms will be viewed the same way lol

***IPSC sees it as a step too far for civilians to use firearms that an uninformed person could mistake for military weapons AND wear military clothing at the same time, (if they are not currently serving in the forces). IPSC want to distance themselves from the police/military aspect of shooting and be regarded purely as a sports organisation, just like archery, javelin, discus etc are no longer regarded in the minds of most people as being directly linked with the use of those pieces of equipment for killing people, despite that being their origin. Again, IPSC shooting happens in virtually every country in the world, there are places where people are just as, or even more, hysterical about this type of thing than the UK.

To reiterate; you're pushing on an open door. I couldn't care less what people wear to do whatever type of shooting they do. However when rules or etiquette dictate i follow those rules. I wouldn't turn up to a game shoot in a luminous tracksuit and i wouldn't go to an IPSC competition in head-to-toe camo.

True. Which is one of the reasons I dont participate. Just one.

I love slug matches but would also have to reconsider if petty clothing rules were introduced.
