Welcome aboard.

Everyone is advising the Ruger 10/22 as the semi of choice, and in fairness it's a great, well proven rifle.
That said, the S&W M&P 15-22 is a bit more modern, easier to maintain, and imho more reliable .22lr semi auto.
The possible downside being it looks militaristic and might get banned for being black.

In my opinion, you cannot get a more reliable .22 semi automatic, in the 10/22. They're the work horses of the semi-automatics.
