Gun Porn

#1 Post by Burner »

A few years ago my Neice's husband wanted me to build a AK as a birthday present for his father in law (my older brother)
How could i not?
I said" buy the parts and I will build you a AK the likes of which the world has never seen."

After a week, I brought this out of the gun werks.

Yes it is 24kt gold plating.

Last AK I ever built, How could I top that?

When you say build can you tell us a bit more about the process?

He loved it

Build,
Start with a torch cut military surplus full auto AK parts kit.
(The receiver has been very roughly cut into three pieces)
Finish demilling the kit into useable parts.
Bend, fit, and heat treat, a new receiver from a flat.
Assemble a New semiauto rifle from said parts set the head space, and refinish to taste.

I have done many. AK, FAL's and also built from parts many flavors of bolt action rifles.
My latest is a PSL.

A few more I have built.
The FAL's were assembled on aftermarket receivers.

Made from a real Romainian military PSL.
It is assembled on a modified FPK receiver.

Is it chambered in .308 or 54R?

I am intrigued by the idea of building a receiver from flat, do you literally take a sheet and fold and form it from scratch or do you but a stamped out component and do the folding yourself?

Building from a flat can be done either way.
You can start with a sheet of mild steel and have a go or you can get precut flats that just need bending fitting and hardening.
(You will need to build or buy a bending jig to get it right unless you have access to a pretty high end finger brake.)
Like these.

Other flats are partly cut along the folds to ease in hand bending, then the cuts need to be welded after bending.
